Here are some videos of our trainer's dogs performing various basic and advanced obedience skills. Please check back for updates. Excuse the shoddy camera work please! Our trainer is much better at training dogs than she is at filming and taking pictures! We hope you enjoy the videos.

Off Leash:

Training a dog to respond to commands when off leash requires time and extensive practice. Two different dogs, each at different levels of training are shown in the videos below. Louie is a mature, smooth collie adult (approx. 5 in the first two videos). Firefly is still an adolescent in the videos shown below, just starting her off leash training.

As you can see from the dogs' happy, relaxed body language (loose body, happy tail sets), we use lots of positive reinforcement in the form of treats, praise and other things the dogs enjoy. We do not use nor recommend shock collars.

Go to your place:

This basic behavior is very useful for pet owners, can be used to facilitate control with visitors, and to prevent accidental "escapes."

Play time:

Puppy Training - Firefly is our trainer's newest puppy. These videos show her training progress as she matures.

Monty Videos: Monty is our German Shepherd mix adopted from a local shelter. He's been trained a variety of complex behaviors. As you can see from the videos below, even though Monty was initially trained using food rewards, behaviors can be chained together in sequences. Also food rewards are not needed constantly to achieve reliable performance. Monty was trained using a combination of lure-reward techniques as well as clicker training.

Firefly Videos:

Louie Videos: Louie is a smooth collie, and he has passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluation and is trained numerous mobility assistance tasks.

Phaser Videos: Phaser was a rough collie and was trained in competition obedience, competition frisbee and also as a service dog using reward based methods.

Nacho Videos: Nacho was a siberian husky (passed away in 2009) who was trained as a therapy dog. He is a senior citizen in the video with some health problems (which is why he moves slowly). However, he even as a senior he demonstrated reliable responses in training. Even challenging breeds like huskies can be trained to respond reliably with distractions.
